The Tide Pools That Remember

There is a short road on the Rhode Island coast that ends right where the waves crash up onto the rocks. These are not breakers, but massive stones that have lasted for eons. It is also home to many fantastic tidal pools.

We brought the kids there, to the same place my brother and I played long ago. Of course, now I spent my time worrying about my kids getting hurt. I wonder if my parents felt the same way. They loved it as much as we did back then.

I spent many childhood vacations in a small fishing village in Rhode Island. Tiny cottages were only a short walk from the beach. This is also one of the few memories I have of my mom. The past few years we began bringing our kids there for vacation. To the same exact cottage we stayed at. In fact, since it has remained in that actual family, the same copy of Monopoly I played 40 years ago is still there.

It's fantastic... it's not fancy like most rentals, but it is comforting and just feels right. Oh, and on top of all that it has my new most favorite thing... an outdoor shower. I recommend it.
